new generation ai safety

The AI Safety Initiative

Artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly becoming more powerful and capable. As AI systems become more sophisticated, there is a growing risk that they could be used to harm humans, either intentionally or unintentionally.

The
8 Pillars

1
Do no harm
AI should not be used to harm humans, either intentionally or unintentionally.
2
Be governed
The development and use of AI should be governed by laws and regulations that protect people and society.
3
Be transparent
AI should be transparent about how they work and make decisions.
4
Be accountable
There should be clear accountability for the development and use of AI.
5
Be aligned with human values
AI should be aligned with human values, such as fairness, justice, and compassion.
6
Be used for good
AI should be used for good, such as solving problems and improving people's lives.
7
Be robust
AI should be able to withstand attacks and failures.
8
Respect privacy
AI should not collect or use personal data without consent.

Why Demonstrate Your Commitment?

We should pledge for AI safety because AI systems are becoming increasingly powerful and capable, and there is a risk that they could be used to harm humans, either intentionally or unintentionally. Here are some reasons why we should pledge for AI safety:
To prevent AI from harming humans
AI could be used to develop autonomous weapons that could kill without human intervention. Or, an AI system could be used to spread misinformation or propaganda that could lead to violence.
To prevent AI from being biased
AI are trained on data that is created by humans, and this data can reflect human biases. For example, an AI system that is trained on data from a hospital that mostly treats white patients may be biased against black patients. This bias could lead to the AI system making inaccurate or harmful decisions.
To protect personal privacy
AI are often trained on large amounts of data, including personal data such as health records, financial records, and social media posts. This data could be used to track and monitor individuals, or to discriminate against them.
To ensure that AI is used for good
AI has the potential to be used for great good, such as curing diseases, solving climate change, and improving education. However, it is important to ensure that AI is used for good and not for evil. This means developing safety measures that will prevent AI from being used for harmful purposes.
Where We're Heading

The Roadmap & Vision

Today:
Demonstrating commitment to good AI by making a pledge to guide efforts according to X principles
Phase 2:
As various safe AI standards emerge, pledge to study and consider internal adoption
Phase 3:
Continue to demonstrate you’re commitment to good AI by elevating your benAIgn membership to “Practitioner Level”…this indicates you have implemented a framework that ensures your AI complies with your chosen framework
Phase 4:
benAIgn believes in the proven effectiveness of third party assessments of compliance with relevant standards that will ensure safe AI. As these compliance frameworks become operating requirements for your industry, benAIgn will continue to support these efforts with membership levels that demonstrate that your organization follows and or even goes beyond specific regulatory AI compliance frameworks to keep civilizations safe

Building a future where AI benefits all

When we use AI, we need to be aware of the potential risks and take steps to mitigate them. For example, we should only use AI systems that have been developed with safety in mind. This is why AI safety is imperative. We need to ensure that AI systems are developed and used in a safe and responsible manner.
